FACTORS OF PERSISTENCE IN DISTANCE COURSES
THE INFLUENCE OF TUTORS' PERFORMANCE
Keywords:
Persistence, Tutor, Discussion forum., Distance EducationAbstract
The Persistence in Distance Education project seeks to identify and validate the factors that affect student persistence in distance courses, where persistence is an active process, assumed by the student, seeking to acquire skills to overcome the difficulties that arise throughout the course, in order to complete it successfully. Adopting Rovai's model, adapted by Ramos, this article presents the analysis of the factors associated with the dimension that refers to the participation and influence of the tutors' performance on persistence. The specific objective was to map the performance of tutors in four editions of the course "Pharmacists in PHC: working in a network", which involved about 626 students, and to seek correlations with students' persistence. This analysis considered the number of accesses to the platform, the time they remained connected and the number of interactions in the forums of their respective modules of action, collected through Moodle access reports. As a result of this preliminary analysis, there was no direct correlation between the participation of tutoring in the e-forums and the persistence of students, since the evasion was equally distributed among the groups they accompanied. This result points to the need to analyze other information, such as content and interactions carried out in these discussion forums and the performance/influence of teachers, to validate the factors associated with this dimension of the model.
