CIBERSTALKING
WHAT DO THE SCHOOL BOOKS SAY?
Keywords:
Education, Cyberstalking, TextbookAbstract
The article deals with the relationship between textbooks and cyberstalking. It is an excerpt from a master's research in education completed in 2021, funded by CAPES. It aims to analyze whether the textbooks contain the theme of cyberstalking and/or strategies and actions that guide teachers to raise awareness, prevent and combat the phenomenon in the final years of Elementary School. Cyberstalking is the practice of continuously harassing, oppressing, intimidating and manipulating a person via the internet. The research is of a qualitative nature, bibliographical and documentary in nature, carried out in textbooks used by students in the final years of Elementary School (7º, 8º and 9º grades). The logbook was also used as an instrument for data collection. The empirical field is a state school located in the midwest region of Brazil. After reading and analyzing the 32 textbooks used by the final years of elementary school at the researched school, only science, Portuguese, geography and English books were included in the research. The selected chapters explained questions about bullying, cyberbullying, the use of ICT and the culture of overexposure of young people on the Internet, among others. All these themes contribute indirectly to guide teachers to create strategies to work with the phenomenon in the school space, but only the 9º grade English textbook addresses the cyberstalking theme directly.
