ENGLISH LANGUAGE PRONUNCIATION DEVELOPMENT IN A MOBILE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
REVIEWING RESEARCH POSSIBILITIES
Keywords:
Mobile Learning, English Language Teaching, Educational ApplicationsAbstract
Based on the assumption that several studies have been conducted on language learning in a mobile environment to understand its real potential and effects, it is possible to affirm that a review of the different types of investigations carried out so far is necessary. Hence, the objective of this paper is to review and describe two research possibilities on English language teaching applications (apps) focused on pronunciation development, one being a master's thesis (BALDISSERA, 2020) and the other a doctoral dissertation (PIRES, 2022), aiming specifically at verifying common points and limitations to then indicate other relevant research paths. This review adopted a critical approach (MONTE MÓR, 2013) to the recently conducted research on the presented theme, which is configured as a theoretical reference for my master's project under development at the Postgraduate Program in Language Studies (PPGEL) of the Faculdade de Artes, Letras e Comunicação (Faalc) da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS). Finally, after demonstrating the limitations of the reviewed research and their common points, it was possible to observe that investigations that assume a critical attitude in language teaching and that are attentive to the connections between digital technologies, teaching, culture, and ideology are necessary for an education aware of students’ diversities and learning.
