THE REMOTE SCIENCE LABORATORY
AN EXPERIENCE REPORT WITH HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS DURING THE PANDEMIC
Keywords:
Science Remote Labs, Remote Experiments, Experimental ActivitiesAbstract
This work reports on an experimental activity carried out with higher education students at a Brazilian public university, which was based on an experiment from the Remote Science Laboratory and aimed to determine the sound's propagation speed in the air. Remote-accessible experiments allow users to manipulate equipment on a laboratory bench and monitor everything in real time. In particular, the items from the mentioned laboratory's collection can be accessed free of charge at any time at https://labremoto.unifei.edu.br. We present a brief description of the laboratory and the discipline in which the activity was carried out. The elaboration of the proposal was guided by research that has pointed out the benefits of investigative activities from the learning perspective. That's why a procedure was sought that required data collection – reading of measuring instruments and magnitudes in the experiment – and an instrumental apparatus that would give students a certain freedom of choice regarding the planning of the procedures. The results obtained by the students are presented and revealed that they correctly followed the basic guidelines for using the experimental apparatus, as these values have an order of magnitude comparable to the theoretical value from the literature. This suggests that the resource has good quality both from the point of view of scientific results and from a technical point of view.
